Dan made is first forays into photography at the age of 15 but it took him another 20 years to make the plunge and become a professional photographer , following a formal education at the Academy of Photography in Amsterdam with specialization in journalistic and social photography. After his graduation he was a faculty member of the Academy for another 4 years.
Understanding and documenting his own and other cultures , such as Europe’s expanding migrant communities , the borderless gypsies , or Japan’s drop-out youth , has been a prevailing force behind Dan’s work. He has traveled extensively to conflict-zones such as Balkan countries , the former Soviet Republic , Northern Ireland and Israel & Palestine.
A keen guitar player himself , he also enjoyes documenting theatre and music performances.
Dan’s photographs have been published in newspapers and magazines across the world . His work has been included in the collections of individuals , corporate houses and cultural institutes.
Dan has lived in The Netherlands and Japan , Spain and since 2007 in Norway.
