was born in Palermo but works and lives in Perugia. He graduated in Nuclear Engineering in Palermo and in Sculptural Techniques from the Accademia di Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts) “Pietro Vannucci” of Perugia. The dual nature of the soul of Pippo Cosenza, physically distant yet emotionally close to the land of his childhood and adolescence, is conveyed in his artefacts through memory, using magic symbols to depict the nostalgia for the past and for distant places. In the last few years, his creative spirit has urged him to show his artistic results more and more regularly with frequent solo and collective exhibitions, by taking part in symposiums in Italy and abroad. His works are on display in national and international museums and institutional sites. He has won Art contests and prizes and is particularly active as a curator and organiser of events.
Luciano Cancelloni writes:
For Cosenza, the language of art is not limited to a semiotic phenomenon but becomes communication, a way of sharing sensitivity and passion. It becomes meta-language, where the artistic object is an idiomatic instrument, it is the universe resting and then re-emerging like magma. The social commitment of this artist to non-profit associations is commendable, as well as his involvement in charity exhibitions in favour of the less fortunate and his honest perseverance in using certain painting techniques; collage, architecture and textures are nothing but scenery, where the action of the characters takes place. Continuity without repetitiveness. Without repetitiveness, he goes straight to the essence of the iconographic message and is not sidetracked by forced and captivating “quibble”. Some works feature styles ranging from abstraction to representation without antinomies, and the apparent contradiction is the key to implementing the complexity of the subjects while depicting them.
